Terms of use

This page is the plain English summary of the position. The contract a school signs is issued with the first invoice, together with the data processing agreement, and it is that document rather than this page that binds either of us.

Who may use Ribn

Schools, and teachers employed by them. Pupils use accounts their school or their teacher has created for them. Pupils cannot create their own accounts, which is what keeps a school in control of who is on its platform.

What a subscription buys

A number of teacher seats for a billing year, with unlimited pupils. A seat may be moved between members of staff. Prices, the seat counts and the VAT treatment are on the pricing page, and the price you are quoted is the price on your invoice.

The trial

Free until the end of the current term, with no card required and no automatic conversion into a paid subscription. If you do not buy, work you have authored stays yours and stays exportable.

Your content stays yours

Questions a teacher writes belong to the teacher and their school. We do not claim ownership of them, we do not put them into a shared bank without being asked, and we do not use pupil work to train a model.

Our content

Questions from the Ribn bank are licensed to you for teaching while your subscription runs. Curriculum material published under the Open Government Licence carries its own terms, which we honour and attribute.

Acceptable use

  • Do not share an account. A seat is one member of staff.
  • Do not attempt to reach another school’s data.
  • Do not upload material you have no right to use.
  • Do not put personal data about a pupil into a question. There is nowhere it needs to go.

The state of the product

Ribn is being built, and we would rather say which parts are finished than let a school find out in September. The about page says where it has got to, and the pricing page says which capabilities are planned rather than present.

Ending a subscription

A single teacher can cancel from their account page, with no email required. A school gives notice before the end of its billing year. In both cases the school exports its data first, and we delete the rest on the published schedule.

Changes to these terms

A material change is notified to the person who holds the subscription before it takes effect. We do not change terms quietly.
